The built heritage in Colta (Ecuador). Historical review of the Church of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves

Abstract

This article shows a historical review of the evolution and typological-functional characterization of one of the main manifestations of the religious historical heritage of Ecuador, located in the Colta canton, province of Chimborazo, the Church of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves. Specifically, several considerations are analyzed in the stages of its construction, some of the principles of operation used and the main contributions of such heritage manifestations, based on specialized bibliography, information provided by the historical/religious files and primary information gathered through interviews to key actors, representatives of the communities, in addition to the use of technological tools. Finally, a discussion was held on the results obtained and it was emphasized that the evolution of the inventions was parallel to the technological development of the time, adjusting to the social, cultural, religious and, above all, natural context.
